Off-the-shelf communications enclosures will not weather harsh environments

Posts
In an industrial environment communications equipment, such as routers, antennas and switches, normally live a fairly quiet life in a controlled enclosure.

However, in the mining industry, these devices are exposed daily to humidity, extreme heat and cold, grime, dust, water and explosives. For that reason, mining operations rely heavily on top-grade products that are engineered to perform through extreme and hazardous conditions. Equipment with the Ingress Protection rating IP66, IP67 and IP68 is certified to weather such conditions and is essential to the mining industry.

The solution was to manufacture an Ingress Protection 67 rated custom aluminium housing for the router. The cabling that exits the router and terminates elsewhere (i.e. Power, Ethernet, Antenna, etc.) was also upgraded providing the customer with a package that fully meets the IP67 requirements.

Such IP67-certified products are exceptionally durable, corrosion-resistant and able to withstand mechanical abuse as well as exposure to chemicals, water, extreme temperature changes and high vibrations.
